Which is the Better Choice – Dreamweaver Or Visual Studio?

When talking about web site creation, the two programs that stand out are Adobe’s Dreamweaver and Microsoft’s Visual Studio and someone eventually will ask which one is the better program for what they need. The obvious issue that comes to mind before even opening the box is that Visual Studio is a Microsoft creation.

Anyone that has any experience with computers and their programs knows that Microsoft hardware and software plays better with other Microsoft toys. This is not to bash on Microsoft but if you are not using any Microsoft applications then this maybe a turning point for you. Many people are using Apple hardware when they have intensive graphic needs, so you might want a program that plays well with any platform, including Microsoft’s.

For any first timers, Visual Studio is easy to use with its many examples and help section. Via drag and drop interface, there is total control over servers and the HTML servers, as well. An easy to read and navigate control panel displays all your server controls. These are some of the highlights of what the Visual Studio can do for you. Read the rest of this entry »

Easy Mathematics

Many students consider mathematics to be a difficult and scary subject. Difficulties can be overcome when you replace your fear with curiosity. If you give proper attention to this subject you will surely begin to like it. Math becomes very easy once you stop hating it.

But why should you take the pains to study it? What is the importance of math in real life? In fact, its scope is far beyond daily calculations and planning your monthly expenditure. It is said that all biology is ultimately chemistry; all chemistry is ultimately physics and all physics is ultimately mathematics. Today economics is one of the most popular subjects. Every curriculum pertaining to economics also has math as its integral part. At an advanced level its applications are incredible. For instance, the Nash Equilibrium (in Economics/Statistics) can be used to predict stock market trends and even in resolving war between countries. Learning math improves your mental skills. If you are good at math you will be able to solve day to day problems easily. This is because your thinking becomes logical when you properly study it.

Very few students have an aptitude for this subject. Nevertheless, everyone has the basic capabilities that are needed to study the subject at the school level. Read the rest of this entry »

A Primer for Mobilizing Enterprise Applications: Is There a Killer App?

Where do Enterprise Applications and Mobile Devices meet? How about in the middle. At a software application and licensing conference 5 years ago I was asked to present a “how to mobilize an enterprise application”. The context of the talk included the proverbial “what is the next killer mobile app beyond email”. My answer was not short. I had 45 minutes to fill and did my best to make it entertaining. Since we were still on 2nd generation data networks for mobile, and network persistence was an issue, I spent most of the talk describing mobile middleware as the important link between developing enterprise application access for mobile access devices. Addressing the necessary architecture for OLTP vs. OLAP-based applications was the focus. Yep, all enterprise stuff.

Today, I say there are no killer apps in the enterprise. Yet if you are an ISV or independent developer and want to focus on a mobile enterprise applications business, than there is what I call “killer criteria”. Here are a few primers to help you get started.
